KOLLAM: Karunagapally former MLA and CPI leader R Ramachandran passed away early Tuesday morning . He was 75. He died while undergoing treatment for liver ailments at Amrita Hospital in Kochi early this morning at 3.55 am. He was admitted in the hospital a week ago.
He started his public life through student politics. He had served as secretary of CPI Karunagapally taluk committee and Chavara constituency when the taluk committee was bifurcated. He was the district assistant secretary of CPI for a long time. He became district secretary in 2012. He was also elected as a member of the CPI state executive committee. He continued as the district secretary till he contested for the legislative assembly in 2016. He had also served as LDF district convenor. He was the chairman of SIDCO during 2006-11. He won the district council from Panmana division in 1991. In 2000, he came to the district panchayat from Thodiyur division. In 2004, he became the vice president of the district panchayat.
His body will be taken to Kollam by 11 am. The body will be kept for public homage at Kollam CPI district committee office. He will be laid to rest at the premises of his residence on Wednesday. He leaves behind his wife Priyadarshini, retired as accountant from Travancore Devaswom Board and daughter Deepa Chandran and son-in-law Anil Kumar.
