Gangster Aneesh, infamous for abducting DMK MLA from TN, seriously injured in razor blade attack inside prison

THRISSUR: An attempt was made to kill notorious gangster Maradu Aneesh in Viyyur Central Prison on Monday. He suffered injuries on his head, body and face in the attack using a razor. Jail Assistant Prison Officer Benoy, who tried to save Aneesh, was also injured. The attack was carried out by Ashraf and Hussain, inmates of Viyyur Jail.

Aneesh was lodged in the hospital block of the prison. Hussain and Ashraf, who were suffering from hepatitis, had come for examination. Both of them attacked Aneesh with a razor blade that they had cleverly taken from the jail's barber shop.

When the staff tried to restrain them, one among the two threatened to injure himself and later cut himself. The officer who held him back was covered in blood. According to the police, personal enmity was the reason for the attack.

Ashraf is a native of Ambayathode in Kozhikode. Hussain is from Ernakulam district. Aneesh was seriously injured in the attack and shifted to the prisoner's ward of the Medical College Hospital. There are more than 45 cases against Aneesh in Kerala, including murder, attempted murder and kidnapping. Kochi city police special team arrested Aneesh on November 7. Aneesh was injured during a conflict with a gangster from a neighboring slum and was in the hospital with a torn muscle from his right shoulder. Aneesh, who uses lethal weapons including guns, is the main accused in the case of kidnapping a DMK MLA in Tamil Nadu.

The court had released Aneesh in the Imtiyaz murder case, after facing a trial. He was arrested for allegedly abducting a man from Nettur on October 31, beating him up and throwing him in Thiruvalla and in the case of attempted murder in 2022 near Thrikakkara station. The collector had imposed KAAPA against Aneesh.
