THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran's mortal remains will soon reach Thiruvananthapuram for the public to pay their last respect. The mortal remains of the late leader earlier arrived at Kochi Nedumbassery airport on Saturday at 7 am. Through an air ambulance service, the body will reach Thiruvananthapuram soon.
For the public to pay homage, the body will be kept at Kanam’s house in Jagathy and CPI headquarters in Vazhuthacaud. Later, there will be a funeral procession towards Kanam’s home town of Vazhoor in Kottayam, where the final rites will take place.
The funeral is scheduled for Sunday at 11 am. Kanam passed away on Friday due to a heart attack at a private hospital in Kochi.
Kanam Rajendran's right leg was amputated due to diabetes and infection. He was under treatment after this and suffered a heart attack on Friday evening. He had applied for leave from the post of CPI state secretary. He served as CPI State Secretary in the last two terms. Kanam Rajendran was born on November 10, 1950 in Koottikal in Kottayam district. He entered politics through AIYF.
At the age of 23, he became the state secretary of AIYF. He became a member of the CPI state secretariat at the age of 28. Kanam also worked at the national level in the field of youth organization with AB Bardhan. In 1982 and 1987, he became a member of the Legislative Assembly from Vazhoor constituency. Later he contested twice from Vazhoor but failed. After that, Kanam completely shifted to organizational roles and became the CPI state secretary in 2015.
Born on November 10, 1950, in Kottayam Koottickal to the late VK Parameswaran Nair and TK Chellamma, Kanam leaves behind his wife Vanaja and children: Sandeep and Smita. Son-in-law: Tara Sandeep (Secretariat), V. Sarveswaran (Business).
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and ministers paid their last respects to Kanam on Friday night by reaching the hospital in Kochi by the bus used for the Nava Kerala Sadas.
