Loses Rs 3 lakh in playing online rummy; youth held for theft

PATHANAMTHITTA: A youth was arrested for stealing money to play online rummy. He has been identified as Amal Augustin of Bharanganam at Pala in Kottayam. He had lost Rs 3 lakh after playing online rummy. Amal committed the robbery to recover that money.

The accused snatched the necklace of an 80-year-old woman from Nediyakala with a knife around her neck. He was arrested by Elavumthitta police in Pathanamthitta. The police said that he targeted houses and shops where women stay alone.

Meantime, a youth had committed suicide after he lost money in online rummy in last September. The dead is P K Rosh (23), son of Regi and Regina of Vellarikundu, Ranipuram in Kasaragod.

Rosh was an employee of a resort near Pallivasal Attukadu Waterfalls. His colleagues found him hanging from a tree near the resort. He was rushed to the hospital but his life could not be saved.
