Modi to visit Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep today; will launch important projects

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Kerala will begin today. The Prime Minister's visit will start from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu at 10.30 am today. The Prime Minister will reach Lakshadweep in the afternoon and Kerala tomorrow.

The Prime Minister, who will be the chief guest at the 38th convocation ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli today, will inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 19,850 crore related to aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping and higher education sector at a public program to be held at 12 noon. Malayalis will also benefit from the electrification of the Shenkottai-Tenkasi junction road.

Modi will arrive in Lakshadweep at 3.15 pm and has a public program at Agathi. On Wednesday, he will lay foundation stones and inaugurate development projects related to telecommunication, drinking water, solar energy, health etc. in Kavaratti.

  • National Highway Inauguration: Trichy - Kallagam four-lane road on National Highway 81; 4/2-lane road on Kallagam - Meensurutty side; National Highway 785 Chettikulam - Natham four-lane, National Highway 536 Karakudi-Ramanathapuram two-lane, National Highway 179A Salem - Tirupattur - Vaniyampady four-lane
  • Inauguration of new berth at Kamarajar port
  • Foundation stone laying and inauguration of petroleum and natural gas projects worth more than Rs.9000 crores
  • Inauguration of Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) at Indira Gandhi Nuclear Research Center, Kalpakkam (designed entirely by Indian scientists at a cost of Rs 400 crore).
  • Inauguration of Tiruchirappalli NIT Hostel
