KANNUR: Police have registered a case in the conflict that broke out during the march organised by the Kerala Government Nurses Association (KGNA). The police registered the case by excluding Kalliasseri MLA M Vijin, who shouted at the SI. A case has been registered against KGNA office bearers and 100 identifiable persons.

According to the FIR, the protesters formed a group with the intention of committing a crime, held a public meeting and trespassed on the premises of the Collectorate.

The MLA was the one who inaugurated the nurses' collectorate march. Usually, when a march is organised to the Collectorate, the police used to stop them at the gate. However, the police were not present to stop the nurses' march. Following this, activists entered the civil station premises and held a program there. Kannur Town SI and his group arrived at the spot in the meantime. The SI directed the policemen to write down the names of all the protestors. The female police officer who came to write down the names of the protesters did not recognise the MLA and asked for his name.

Later, the MLA told the police that the protesters were ready to shift the program outside the Collectorate. Those who attended the march are alleging that the police, however, snatched the mic from those including the MLA. The Town SI, who reached the protest site, threatened that he will register a case against those who protested on the premises of the Civil Station. With this, the MLA intervened in the matter.

It is reported that a fierce altercation had taken place between the SI and the MLA. During the verbal exchange, the MLA asked the SI not to cause disreputation to Pinarayi Vijayan's police and not to act like Suresh Gopi. The MLA later explained that the police behaved badly towards the protesters even though there was no possibility of a conflict there.
