Sad news for pork lovers; other state lobby becoming villain; shortage due to major export to Nagaland

pork-

KOTTAYAM: The price of pork has increased by Rs.100 in a month. A kilo of boneless pork costs 400 rupees and pork with bones costs 340 rupees. It was 300 and 280 respectively before Christmas. The price has been increasing by 20 rupees every week for a month. Traders say that the price will increase further. Traders who slaughter pigs and give them to small traders said that the price hike by the big pig farms was the reason for the price hike. Denial of permission to bring pigs from other states through check post also led to higher prices. The import of pigs from other states was banned earlier in the name of swine flu. It is alleged that this ban is still going on due to the pressure of big farms.

Weakened due to Exports

Export of pigs from large pig farms to Nagaland is also causing pig shortage in Kerala. Earlier, pigs were brought widely from Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Small farms were widespread in the state, but due to pollution problems, complaints and low prices, many people gave up pig farming, which led to increased demand. As the price of beef increased, many people turned to pork.

The demands like government control over pork prices like Kerala Chicken model and avoiding control through check post, etc. has not been resolved. -Kerala Pork Traders Federation
