No CBI probe into Dr Vandana's murder; High Court dismisses petition filed by father

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has ruled that there was no need for a CBI probe into the murder of Dr Vandana Das. The court issued the order dismissing the plea filed by Vandana's father Mohandas. The court said that there was no rare situation in the case.

Sandeep is the only accused in the case. There have been no findings against the officials. A charge sheet has been already submitted in the case. After conducting a comprehensive investigation and questioning 106 witnesses, a final report was turned in on day 89. Apart from the lapses on the part of the policemen who were with Sandeep, the petitioner could not point out any serious mistakes in the investigation. The court further noted that no criminal intent was mentioned about the police's failure to shield the public from the accused's attack.

Meanwhile, the court rejected the bail application of the accused Sandeep. A special prosecutor has been appointed to initiate the trial process. Vandana's post-mortem report showed that she had sustained profound injuries. The order also stated that the decision was taken considering the previous history of the accused.
