KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has refused to allow Dr Ruwais, the accused in the suicide of PG student Dr Shahana, to continue his PG studies.
The division bench headed by the Chief Justice stayed the single bench's order allowing Ruwais to continue his studies. The division bench took action on the appeal filed by the Principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
The Medical College had earlier decided to extend Ruwais' suspension for another three months. The government had also appointed a special committee to look into the matter. The division bench also directed the committee to review the disciplinary action within a week and take a decision.
Dr Shahana committed suicide in December last year. She committed suicide after Ruwais backed out of the marriage. The investigating officials later found evidence which showed that Shahana, who was under stress because of the demand for dowry and the ensuing fight, decided to commit suicide because of Ruwais' cruel behaviour towards her. Shahana had sent a message to Ruwais on WhatsApp saying that she could not bear this pain and would commit suicide. However, Ruwais immediately blocked her on WhatsApp. Completely devastated by this, Shahana committed suicide that night.
