MALAPPURAM: The Malappuram District Consumer Commission ordered to refund the cost of a car to a passenger seriously injured due to the non-functioning airbag in a car accident. The car manufacturing company has been directed to refund the car's price of Rs 4.35 lakh. Rs 20,000 should also be paid as court costs.

If the order is not implemented within one month, the commission, which has K. Mohandas as president and Preethi Sivaraman and CV Muhammad Ismail as members, the company will have pay nine percent interest. This order was pronounced in a complaint filed by Muhammad Muslyar, a native of Indianoor. On June 30, 2021, the complainant's vehicle met with an accident at Tirur. Muhammad was seriously injured and the vehicle was damaged. He approached consumer Commission alleging that the air bag did not work and that the serious injury was caused by a fault in the manufacture of the vehicle.

The motor vehicle inspector also reported that the air bag did not deploy and the crash was traumatic enough to deploy. Following this, the commission assessed that the vehicle had a manufacturing defect.
