THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The four-year undergraduate course started by the University of Kerala for the first time in the state is out of the State Merit Scholarship of the State Government. BA Honors (Politics and International Relations, Economics, History) course was started in the Kariavattom campus last November but the college education department has not included this course in the application for merit scholarship.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students studying in Arts and Science Colleges and University Departments in Kerala can apply for the State Merit Scholarship. The new course at the Kariavattom campus is not an option in the scholarship application. Students can apply till Thursday. If the government does not intervene, the meritorious students admitted to the four-year course will not get a scholarship.
30 students were admitted to the four-year undergraduate course entirely on the basis of merit. Candidates with more than 98 percent marks in Plus Two were admitted to the course. The scholarship is for those who have 85% marks or above. Those with 95% marks will get a scholarship of Rs.10,000 per annum irrespective of income limit. From next year, undergraduate courses in all universities and colleges will become four year courses.
