Maoist injured in wild elephant attack hospitalized, police records arrest

KANNUR: The police have registered the arrest of Suresh alias Pradeep (49), a resident of Chikkamagaluru's Angadi, a member of the Maoist Western Ghats Special Zone Committee, who is undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital after being injured in a wild elephant attack. He was also under UAPA sections. The anti-terrorist squad is investigating.

The Maoist gang abandoned Pradeep, who was injured in a wild elephant attack, in Chittari colony in Kanjirakolli on Friday. His left leg and chest were severely injured. The wild elephant attack took place in the Karnataka forest. At 6 pm on Friday, a Maoist group consisting of two women went to the house of an individual named Chappili Krishnan and demanded that Suresh get treatment. The group took food items from home and paid him. Local residents said that the group left Suresh there and returned to the forest.

From the colony, the panchayat president and the locals took Suresh to Paadaamkavala in an ambulance and handed him over to the police. Then he was taken to Pariyaram medical college.
