EDAPPAL: The Motor Vehicles Department has taken action against the Rolls Royce which was registered at a fake address in Pondicherry and ran as a rent a car in Kerala without paying tax. The authorities seized the car worth around three crore rupees when it was brought for a wedding shoot.

The MVD initiated action against the owner, a native of Ernakulam, based on the information received from the people who rented the car. The owner was slapped a fine of Rs 12,04,000. Malappuram District Enforcement Kottakkal control room officials found the car and started legal action after monitoring it for several days. A travel agency in Ernakulam was renting out this car for Rs 2 lakh per day. The fraud came to light when a team led by MVI MV Arun questioned the passengers during the vehicle inspection in Malappuram.

A recently married couple were in the car at the time of vehicle inspection. They said that they had hired the car from Ernakulam. As it was an expensive car, the MVD officials could not take it into custody. The security of the newlyweds wearing jewels worth lakhs also put the officials in a dilemma. The officials, who released the car after collecting information, later took legal action after the car reached Ernakulam. AMVIs PK Manoharan, M Salish, P Ajeesh and V Rajesh were also part of the MVD team.
