Cherthala; Husband succumbs to injuries

ALAPPUZHA: Shyam G Chandran, the husband who doused his wife with petrol and set her on fire in Cherthala died. Shyam, who suffered severe burns was undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Medical College. His wife, Arathi (32), who was the victim of the attack died yesterday.

Arathi was set on fire by her husband Shyam with petrol around 9:50 yesterday morning near Cherthala Taluk Hospital. The attack stemmed from a family dispute. Arathi, employed at a private money transfer firm, was stopped by Shyam while she was on her way to work on a scooter in the morning. He then poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. According to the woman's brother, the couple had been living separately for months and Shyam had previously threatened Arathi on multiple occasions.
