Woman and child die after being hit by train in Varkala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mother and son met a tragic end after being hit by a train in Varkala. The accident was caused by MEMU Express plying between Varkala and Thiruvananthapuram. The accident took place in the Ayanthi area in Varkala near Valiya Melathil temple.

The deceased have been identified as Sharanya (25), the wife of Varkala Melvattoor native Mahesh, and son Mithun (5). Sharanya was a native of Kachani in Thiruvananthapuram. A bag of the child was recovered from the spot. The police have started an investigation into the incident. The bodies of both have been shifted to Varkala Taluk Hospital.
