MALE: Former President of Maldives Nasheed has expressed concern about the consequences of India's call for a boycott of everything Maldives after the strained relations the two countries went through during the last few months. Nasheed, who is currently in India, also apologized on behalf of the people of Maldives.

“The strained relations with India have affected Maldives a lot. I am very concerned about this. We apologize on behalf of the people of the Maldives for what happened. We want Indians to come to Maldives for holidays. There will be no change in our hospitality," said Nasheed.

India’s relationship with the Maldives hit rock bottom after President Mohamed Muizzu made it public that he wanted the Indian army to leave the country before May 10. Muizzu now envisions ending all ties with India and rather keep China by its side.

“Do you know what India did when the President of Maldives asked the soldiers to withdraw from the country? They didn't show muscle power, but said they could discuss the matter. “Nasheed said.

Since coming to power in the country in 2023, Muizzu has been taking severe anti-India measures. Albeit the many criticisms coming his way, Muizzu has still not backtracked from his willy stance on the Indian Army in Maldives.
