BENGALURU: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Vande Bharat sleeper train service will start within six months. The minister stated that the manufacture of the first Vande Bharat Express sleeper prototype has been completed and 10 Vande Bharat sleeper trains will start trial run in four to five months and services will be started after that. Vande Bharat sleeper trains manufactured by BEML will have various features including a wireless control system. The Union Minister was speaking to the media after inspecting the manufacturing progress of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches at the BEML campus in Bengaluru.
Vande Bharat sleeper trains, which can travel at a speed of 160 kmph, will reduce travel time significantly. The first prototype Vande Bharat sleeper train will have 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches and one AC 1st coach. The train will have modern amenities like more comfortable berths with better cushions than Rajdhani Express trains, sensor-based lighting in common areas, special berths and toilets for the differently-abled, and automatic exterior passenger doors.
