'Should one use microscope to read your apology? it should be of same size as your ads'; SC lashes out at Patanjali

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rebuked the authorities of Patanjali Ayurved company in the misleading advertisements case. Considering the contempt of court case against Patanjali, the bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and A Amanullah said that the company's public apology in newspapers should be of the same size in which it advertises its products. Patanjali's managing director Acharya Balakrishna and Baba Ramdev were present in the court.

Appearing for the company, senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi said that the company has published an apology in the newspapers. However, Justice Hima Kohli questioned whether the apology was printed in the same size as the company's typical full-page newspaper ads. Rohatgi said that the company published its apology in 67 newspapers and lakhs of rupees were spent for this. The court hit back by asking if publishing the apology was as expensive as publishing full-page newspaper ads.

The court also rebuked Patanjali's lawyer for not producing copies of the apology published in newspapers.

"The copies should be produced in court next time. We want to see in what size was the apology published. There should not be a situation where one has to use a microscope to find the apology published by the company," the court said.

The apex court will consider the case again on April 30.
