"Previous governments used to make announcements to deceive people...": PM Modi mocks Congress on poll promises

LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday ridiculed the Congress on election promises while addressing a gathering after inaugurating various development projects in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh. Modi said that previous governments used to make promises during elections and then disappear.

"People in previous governments used to make announcements to deceive people... When I analyse, I find that announcements made 30–35 years ago (were never fulfilled). They used to put up a plaque before elections, and later, it would disappear...leaders would also vanish," the Prime Minister said.

"The foundation stones we laid in 2019 were not for elections. You can see that we have inaugurated it too," PM Modi added.

His statements were related to opposition leaders mocking Prime Minister Modi, who is inaugurating schemes and making announcements ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The Prime Minister said that the opposition has been included in the same category of old mindset where their leaders appear before elections to make announcements and promises.
