Sowbhagya Venkatesh, dancer and actress Thara Kalyan's daughter opened up about her mother's illness on YouTube. In a video shared by Sowbhagya on YouTube, she said that Thara Kalyan has completely lost her voice due to a condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia.

Thara Kalyan was diagnosed with thyroid after she noticed a difference in her voice and developed difficulty in speaking. According to Sowbhagya, over the years, Thara Kalyan has been speaking loudly and when she gets tense, her voice gets completely blocked. "Many treatments were done but nothing worked. She also underwent thyroid surgery last year. Still the sound did not change. She has now lost her voice completely which was later diagnosed to be a condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia. It occurs when the signal from the brain to the vocal cords is abnormal. This occurs in three ways. She is on a stage called adductor. The cause of this disease has not yet been discovered and there is no exact cure for it," Sowbhagya said.

"She has done an hour-long surgery. I am hopeful that my mother will regain her voice after three weeks. Even if she gets back her voice, there will be a little difference. The doctor has given instructions not to speak or sing in high pitch," she added.
