KOZHIKODE: Mujeeb Rahman, a native of Malappuram Kondotty, has been arrested in connection with the death of Anu (26) of Valoor in Perambra. Mujeeb Rahman, arrested is accused in 50 cases including rape. The police recovered the bike he used at the time of the incident from Edavannapara in Malappuram. He had stolen the bike from Mattannur.
The police also found the clothes suspected to be that of the murdered Anu. Her body was found half-naked in a canal with water only up to the knees. The locals have not yet recovered from the shock of Anu's murder. Everyone is in doubt as to how such a brutal murder happened in broad daylight in an area with so many houses and people around. Anu left home around 9.30-10 am. During this time the area was less crowded as students and commuters have already left. The locals said the accused may have committed the crime at this time.
There is a house just meters away from the canal where the body was found. There was no one there on that day. They had gone to their relative's house. Anu's house is only five minutes away from the place where the body was found. The locals said the accused Mujeeb Rahman gave Anu a lift on his bike. They said that he may have committed the crime at a less crowded place. The accused was traveling wearing a helmet, mask and gloves.
Anu who left home with her husband, went missing on Monday morning. After an investigation by her husband and relatives, the body of Anu was found lying in a canal at around 9 am on Tuesday morning. Her body was half naked. Her ornaments went missing. The body was found one kilometre away from her house. The police suspected murder after it was confirmed that she had not drowned in the canal with water barely up to her knees.
The investigation proceeded around the red bike that was seen in the area. The footage of the Malappuram native was captured on the nearby CCTV. He was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.
