PALAKKAD: A wanted criminal in the murder case of RSS worker Srinivasan in Melamuri has been arrested on Tuesday. Shafeekh, a native of Malappuram, was arrested by the NIA from Kollam. According to the NIA, Shafeekh was a member of Popular Front's hit squad. He went into hiding immediately after the murder.
It was on April 26, 2023, that Srinivasan got hacked to death after assailants stormed into his shop in Melamuri. The six-member gang came in three bikes and murdered the RSS man in pure daylight. The investigation team found that Srinivasan's murder was revenge for the killing of Popular Front leader Subair.
The police discovered that the conspiracy to kill Srinivasan took place near the mortuary of the Palakkad district hospital where the Popular Front activists kept Subair's body. On that night, this group had a covert meeting in the ground behind the mortuary.
According to the report, only three people barged into the shop to hack Srinivasan to death while the other three took guard outside.
