PALAKKAD: Metroman E Sreedharan, the civil engineer par excellence on Saturday expressed his support for the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill. The BJP man found no wrong in excluding Muslims from the list.

Sreedharan later while commenting on active politics played down chances of contesting again from Palakkad if there comes a by-election. E Sreedharan clarified his position in a special interview allowed to a media channel.

“I admit that fact that CAA is focused only on minorities of neighbouring countries. These people are seeking asylum in our country after escaping from Islamic republics. What made them leave their home country?

It is just because they have been stripped of every basic right and are facing gruesome discrimination and torture. These are people who came here 15 years ago and are still living in unbelievably pathetic conditions. If we can’t provide them asylum, then who can? Muslims can seek refuge in different other Islamic countries neighbouring us but these people have nowhere else to go." commented E Sreedharan.

E Sreedharan later admitted to denying the party’s offer to contest the LS polls from Palakkad citing his age and health-related issues.

“I am 94 now, even if I taste victory in elections, what good can I offer to people at this age? So, it is better to stay away from electoral politics.” Sreedharan opined.
