WASHINGTON DC: US President Joe Biden has heaped praises on local authorities for promptly carrying out rescue efforts after a bridge in Baltimore collapsed after it was struck by a container ship. He also made special mention of the ship's crew. Most of the crew members were Indians.
"Personnel on board the ship were able to alert the Maryland Department of Transportation that they had lost control of their vessel prompting the local authorities to close the bridge to traffic before the catastrophic was impact, a move which "undoubtedly" saved lives. I also thank the brave rescue workers who rushed to the spot as soon as they got the information," President Biden said on Wednesday.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday morning after it was struck by a large container ship.
There is still no clear information about how many people were injured and how many people were rescued. According to reports six people were killed in the accident. All 22 Indians on board are reported to be safe.
