Woman beaten to death by husband and family for being unable to meet new demand for Fortuner car

NOIDA: A woman was beaten to death by her husband and his family in the name of dowry. The woman identified as Karishma had called her family on Friday and told them that her husband Vikas and his family had beaten her for dowry. She was found dead when they reached her house.

Vikas and Karishma got married in December 2022. The couple was staying with Vikas’ family in Kheda Chauganpur village of Greater Noida’s Ecotech 3. Karishma’s brother Deepak said that at the time of marriage they gave her gold worth Rs 11 lakh and an SUV as dowry.

Deepak said Vikas and his family had physically and mentally harassed her demanding more dowry. This harassment continued even after she gave birth to a baby girl. Her family tried to sort the issue through panchayat meetings at his village. Her family then gave him another Rs 10 lakh. His family then made a new demand of Rs 21 lakh to buy a Fortuner car. Deepak alleged that they beat her to death for not getting the money.

A case of murder for dowry has been registered against Vikas, his father Sompal Bhati, his mother Rakesh, sister Rinki and brothers Sunil and Anil. Vikas and his father have been arrested. The other accused are on the run and the police have intensified search for them.
