Want a job at Vizhinjam port? Learn courses at quarter the cost with govt funding

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government's skill development agency, Additional Skill Acquisition Program (ASAP), has organized an intensive training program for youth in skill development, focusing on the logistics job opportunities at Vizhinjam port. The training is currently being conducted at the Adani Group's Skill Development Centre. Courses that can cost up to one and a half lakh rupees in the private sector are taught here at low fees. The center functions as a transit campus of ASAP but will be shifted to the Asap Community Skill Park in Mukkola, Panavilakkadu after the elections.

The training is divided into four categories: Logistics, Healthcare, Beauty and Wellness and Apparel. Courses including logistics supply chain management will also be introduced in the future. Training in advanced technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) will also commence soon.

Courses

Lasher, ITV Truck Operator, Warehouse Management, Crane Operator (port-related), General Duty Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Beautician and Hair Stylist. Each course has a batch of 25 students and the duration is two months. The training includes both theoretical and practical components and instruction is provided in English and Hindi languages. Fees range from 20,000 to 30,000 rupees for port-related courses and 2,000 to 18,000 rupees for general courses.

Half the fee is sufficient for the youth of Vizhinjam, Harbour, Mullur, Kottapuram and Venganoor Corporation Wards in the port project area. The remaining amount will be covered by Adani's CSR fund. Those who successfully complete the training will also receive placement support at the port, in allied sectors and abroad.
