NEW DELHI: Petition in Delhi High Court to disqualify Prime Minister Narendra Modi from contesting elections for violating the code of conduct. A lawyer named Anand S Jondhale approached the court pointing out that Modi sought votes in the name of gods and temples during his speech at Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh on April 9. The petition has demanded that Modi be disqualified for six years under the Representation of the People Act.
The action has been demanded because Modi sought votes in the name of Hindu and Sikh gods and temples. The petition says that Modi's election speeches are creating caste and religious hatred among the voters, and the petition also demands that the Election Commission be directed to take action against Modi.
The plea also points out that Modi had not only sought votes in the name of Hindu and Sikh gods but also accused opposition parties of appeasing Muslims and if a fair and transparent election is to be held, the Election Commission should intervene immediately. The petition says that Modi is making such speeches while travelling in the helicopter of the central government.
