Will contest from Amethi if necessary: Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that he will consider contesting from Amethi if the party asks him to do so. Rahul made his first reaction on the issue amid rumours that he might announce his candidacy in Amethi after the voting in Kerala on April 26. Rahul was speaking at a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.

"Chances of me contesting from Amethi depends on the party's decision. I'll follow the decision of the party," Rahul Gandhi said.

There was demand from the Congress unit in Amethi and the UP state unit that Rahul should contest from Amethi. The Congress decision is extending the decision on the matter to counter the BJP's allegation that Rahul is afraid to contest in two seats. Moreover, the Congress does not want Rahul's candidacy in Amethi to cause a problem in Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav said that the winds of change are beginning to blow across the country.

"There is a strong undercurrent in favour of 'INDIA'. BJP will not even cross 150 seats this time. The electoral bond, which Narendra Modi had claimed to be transparent, has exposed the BJP's corruption. The whole country knows that Prime Minister Modi is the champion of corruption," Rahul said.

"The electoral bonds have unmasked BJP's moral claims. BJP keeps the corrupt leaders in its fold and takes the share of their corruption. There is only one person's picture everywhere and it will disappear after the election," Akhilesh Yadav said.

Both of them criticized the manifesto of the BJP. According to the INDIA leaders, all the talk about the Olympics and sending a man to the moon in 10-15 years shows how far the BJP is from the harsh realities of the country. Rahul also pointed out that matters such as unemployment, social justice and justice for farmers are mentioned in the Congress manifesto.
