NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has clarified that it has not arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan in the money laundering case in connection with the Waqf board irregularities. The ED said that it released Amanatullah Khan after questioning him. The MLA also confirmed that the central agency did not arrest him. The ED came out with the explanation after the AAP issued a statement alleging that Amanatullah was arrested by the ED.
Earlier, the CBI had registered a case alleging that while serving as the chairman of the Waqf board during 2018-2022, Amanatullah Khan had illegally accumulated wealth by appointing employees illegally and unfairly leasing Waqf Board properties. The ED summoned the MLA for questioning in the money laundering case in connection with this case. Both the ED and the CBI had conducted raids at his residence. Amanatullah Khan appeared before the ED for questioning after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea yesterday.
