How Gopika P C ended up as Mahima Nambiar

Mahima Nambiar, the new dame of the Malayalam film industry is now the talk of mollywood after tasting repeated success in the industry. Her latest, ‘Jai Ganesh’ alongside actor Unni Mukundan is performing decent in the box office.

Mahima was earlier Gopika. To be precise, Gopika Palat Chirakkaraveettil or Gopika PC. She rechristened her name after joining the industry. Mahima has already told this side of her story in many interviews.

Mahima Nambiar:

“Still on record, I am Gopika PC; Gopika Palat Chirakkaraveettil, a very big name indeed. Even Unni Mukundan praised the name ‘Mahima Nambiar’ and remarked that the name holds some weight. My first film was 'Karyasthan', where I acted as Dileepettan’s sister. Later I grabbed a role in Prabhu Solomon sir’s movie in Tamil. It was at this set that the thought about rechristening my name first came up.

Actress Gopika during the time was very popular in the industry so it was the director himself who suggested a name change. What more! The name Mahima itself was his contribution. I only learned about the name change through Google. When I googled about the movie, the heroine's name was put as ‘Mahima’.

Later, I visited a numerologist who convinced me to add a suffix to my name to invite good fortune. I had no great belief in such things, but to be honest, after adding the suffix, great things came my way. Nambiar is my grandfather’s surname, so the hunt for a name didn’t take that long. This suffix has nothing to do with caste or religion.
