CHENNAI: A 27-year-old newlywed woman committed suicide in Tirupur after allegedly facing relentless dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws. The deceased, identified as Ridhanya, took her own life by consuming pesticide tablets. She had married Kavin Kumar in April this year.

According to reports, Ridhanya was subjected to intense mental and physical abuse shortly after her marriage. Her husband and his family allegedly harassed her, claiming the dowry provided was insufficient.

Despite her family offering 100 sovereigns of gold and a Volvo car worth Rs 70 lakh as dowry, Kavin and his parents reportedly demanded additional money within ten days of the wedding.

Police investigations revealed that Ridhanya had expressed her distress in a WhatsApp message to her father, in which she detailed the harassment and indicated suicidal thoughts. Her father later confirmed that she had spoken about ending her life. Following the incident, police arrested Kavin Kumar and his parents, and a case has been registered against them under dowry harassment charges.
