VIZHINJAM: The Vizhinjam International Port will be opened this year as an Onam gift for the Malayalees, Minister VN Vasavan said on Thursday. A full trial run will be conducted at the end of June. He was speaking to the media after assessing the progress of the port construction.
"The construction is 85 percent complete. Road and rail projects are to be completed. Discussions in this regard are going on," the minister said.
The minister witnessed the functioning of the cranes at the port. The cranes have a fully automatic operation system. Bringing a barge full of containers next month will serve as a trial run.
Minister Saji Cheriyan, VISL MD Divya S. Iyer, Port Company CEO Pradeep Jayaraman and Adani Corporate Affairs Head Anil Balakrishnan were also present with the minister.
