THALASSERY: The verdict in the murder case of Vishnupriya (23) at Panoor in Kannur, will be pronounced on Friday. The verdict in the case was postponed by Thalassery Additional District Court (I). Vishnupriya's former friend A Shyamjith (27) of Manantheri is the accused in the case. She was found murdered at her house in the afternoon on October 22, 2022.

She was at her ancestral house for the funeral rites of a close relative. She came home in the morning to change her clothes. Shyamjith reached home while she was on a WhatsApp video call to her friend in Ponnani. She had told him that Shyamettan has come and would do something to her. The phone got disconnected immediately.

Shyamjith murdered her after entering her bedroom, hit her head with a hammer and then slit her throat. He immediately fled from the spot. Her mother, who came in search of her found her daughter lying in a pool of blood in the room. The accused was arrested in an investigation conducted.

The accused told police that he planned to kill her after she severed ties with him. He also testified that he was inspired by the Malayalam movie 'Ancham Pathira', telling the story of a serial killer.
