MUMBAI: Head coach of the Indian cricket team and former captain of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid will step down as India's head coach after the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup in June. According to sources, the BCCI is unlikely to extend Dravid's contract any further.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has hinted that the advertisement to hire a new coach will be released soon. Dravid was appointed as India's head coach in November 2021. His contract was extended till the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, it is reported that his contract will not be extended after the T20 World Cup.
In November 2023, Dravid had written to the BCCI seeking an extension of his contract as well as the contract of his staff. Jay Shah has made it clear that Dravid can again apply for the role of the head coach if he wants to continue as the head coach of the team. The BCCI secretary has not ruled out considering a foreign player for the position of coach. However, the BCCI is completely against the method of having different coaches for different formats.
