Two killed as ship rams fishing boat in Ponnani, boat splits into two

PONNANI: The bodies of the two fishermen, who went missing after a ship hit their fishing boat in Ponnani, have been found. Abdul Salam (43) and Gafoor (45) natives of Azhikkal, are the two fishermen, who lost their lives. There were six people in the boat. Four of them have been rescued. The accident happened 38 nautical miles away from Ponnani.

The incident happened Monday morning at 1 am. The boat split in two and sank in the sea. Those on board the ship was the first to engage in rescue operations. The bodies of the two were found in a search conducted for them. There were injuries in their bodies.

A boat named Islahi, owned by Nainar of Azhikkal, met with the accident. The group left for fishing on Friday. The fishermen said the ship was travelling close to the coast causing danger.
