Son who abandoned bedridden father arrested; arrest under Protection of Senior Citizens Act

TRIPUNITHURA: Son who abandoned his bedridden father in a rented house has been arrested. Hill Palace police arrested Ajith K Shanmukhan (38), a resident of Ponnurunni Vyttila, who lived in a rented house in Eroor North Vymeethi. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Senior Citizens Act.

What Police have to say about the incident: Ajith and his family abandoned Shanmukhan in the rented house in the evening of last 10th and left with the household goods. Shanmukhan, who laid alone without help for a whole day, was later brought food and other help by the locals.

On the morning of the 11th, under the leadership of palliative workers, Shanmukhan was brought to the taluk hospital. Later Shanmukhan's daughters and brother took him to Shanmukhan's brother's house in Kothamangalam.

The accused Ajith, a tourist bus driver who was in Karnataka on the day of the incident, returned home yesterday. The accused was arrested by a team comprising SHO Anand Babu, SIs VR Reshma, Tolsan Joseph and SCPO Dipindas.
