ALAPPUZHA: A couple reunited their marriage which ended 14 years ago in the family court. The Alappuzha Family Court yesterday witnessed the reunion of Subrahmanyan (58), a retired nursing assistant from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Superintendent's Office, residing in Kallarkode, Alappuzha and Krishna Kumari (49), a helper in Anganwadi residing in Radha Nivas, Kuthirapanthi. Their 16-year-old daughter Ahalya S was the witness. Ahalya, who has secured top marks in this year's 10th-grade examination is doubly glad to be reunited with her father and mother.

They got married on August 31, 2006. Their daughter was born in 2008. The two started living apart after a dispute over a trivial issue, which eventually led to a court case. The marriage was legally dissolved on March 29, 2010. In 2020, Krishna Kumari filed a petition in the Alappuzha Family Court seeking alimony for her daughter's expenses. The verdict ordered Subrahmanyan to pay Rs 2000 per month. The turning point came when the High Court rejected Subrahmanyan's appeal and suggested an amicable solution to the problem.

Since the two have not remarried, the court suggested that they should live together for the sake of their child's custody. Once both parties and their lawyers agreed to this, the process of remarriage registration began. The family will be living in a rented house in Kallarkode from Monday. Advocates R. Rajendra Prasad, S. Vimi and G. Sunitha appeared for Subrahmanyan and Adv. Suraj R. Mainagapalli appeared for Krishna Kumari.
