From Aadujeevitham to Aavesham; Mollywood crosses 1000 crore landmark in five months

Five months, five super hits. This is the first time a thousand crore has fallen in the cash box of Malayalam cinema. In five months, the income has reached one thousand crores. Malayalam cinema is shocking the Indian cinema itself. Malayalam movies are raking in crores in Tamil and Telugu. Blockbuster films are making twice as much as before. 2024 can be described as the lucky year of Malayalam cinema. The spectacle of superhits, megahits and blockbusters continues.

Manjummel Boys is the first 200 crore film in Mollywood collecting 242 crores worldwide. Manjummel Boys earned 100 crores from Tamil Nadu alone without dubbing and 10 crores from Karnataka. Aadujeevitham - The Goat life is on its way to cross 150 crores globally. Fahadh Faasil starrer Aavesham has collected 77 crores from Kerala alone and 155 crore globally. Another blockbuster, Premalu was a historic success in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and earned 136 crores globally.

Written and directed by Vineeth Srinivasan, Varshangalkku Shesham which was released along with Aavesham on Vishu, earned 85 crores worldwide. Prithviraj's Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil hit the theatres last week. The numbers will change when Mammootty's big-budget film Turbo hits the theaters this week and the collection at the box office will also increase. Films are coming in a row for which the audience is waiting with great anticipation. Bazooka is Mammootty's next. Barroz in 3D, Ajayante Randam Moshanam, Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer are the upcoming releases.

Youngsters are the king now. Manjummel Boys was about the true survival of a group of friends. In Premalu, the way the story is told and the life in Hyderabad fascinated the viewers. Bengaluru college kids, their Ranganna who can't get any love, and his shadow Amban captured the entire audience. Najib's dreams and his survival... The audience wanted both of these like Najib himself. Hence, Aadujeevitham - The Goat life was seen to become the life of the audience as well. Varshangalkku Shesham raised the hopes of Kodambakkam cinema dreamers through youngsters.

The leap to 2024 started with Abraham Osler. In February, Bharamayugam hit the theatres. This Mammootty movie has grossed 60 crores. Tovino Thomas starrer Anweshippin Kandethum crossed the Rs 50 crore mark followed by Premalu and Manjummal Boys. Goat life in March. Aavesham and Varshangalkku Shesham as Vishu release.

The way the story is told has changed. The hero-heroine concept has been debunked. There is no need for a heroine anymore. Malayalam cinema has opened the door to a new perspective. Watch it… Enjoy…
