AHMEDABAD: Fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will have to extend their wait for IPL trophy as Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday beat them by 4 wickets in Eliminator to seal their place in the Qualifier 2.
Chasing 173, RR had a fair share of nervy moments after the dismissal of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
RR's opening pair of Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore took a cautioned approach as they punished only the ones that landed in the hitting zone.
The opening pair was broken in the final over of the powerplay after Tom (20) lost his wicket.
Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson stitched together a 35-run partnership to keep the Royals on track.
Cameron Green took the wicket of Jaiswal who edged it to Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps. Five balls later, Samson was back in the stands and it smelled like the beginning of a collapse.
Dhruv Jurel got himself run out following a brilliant effort on the field from Virat Kohli. RR's chase started to go off stray as Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag tried to calm the nerves.
Siraj dismissed Parag and Hetmyer in the same over which raised hopes of a comeback for RCB.
But Rovman Powell struck two boundaries and cleared the boundary on the final ball of the penultimate over to seal a 4-wicket win for Rajasthan.
Earlier in the innings, RR opted to bowl first.
Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets for 19 while Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he secured 3-44, by getting the important wickets of Rajat Patidar, Mahipal Lomror, and Dinesh Karthik. For RCB, Lomror played a crucial innings of 32 runs while Virat Kohli smashed 33 and Rajat Patidar scored 34 runs off 22 balls.
