KANNUR: The Rajarajeshwara temple in Thaliparambu has rejected Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's allegation of animal sacrifice to topple the Karnataka government. The office-bearers said that it was bad to drag the temple into controversy and there is no animal sacrifice pooja in this temple. The temple bearers also stated that no animal sacrifice poojas were conducted in the premises of the temple.

Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan also came forward against the allegation. This is something that will never happen in Kerala. The minister said in a press release that he will investigate if there is anything like this.

Shivakumar while addressing the press convened in connection with the upcoming MLC elections in Karnataka, alleged that a Shathru Samhara Yagam was conducted to topple the government. He said that 21 red goats, 21 black sheep, three buffaloes and five pigs were sacrificed as part of the yagam at an isolated place near the Rajarajeswara temple in Kerala. Sivakumar also told newsmen that he knows very well who did this and that he will not do anything because he believes in God.

When asked whether leaders from BJP or JDS were behind the yagam, his reply was that politicians from Karnataka were responsible. ‘I know who is conducting this ritual. Let them continue their efforts; I am not worried. I leave it to their belief system. Despite their attempts and trials to cause harm, the force which I believe in will protect me,’ he said. Instead of forcing me to reveal their names, they should be found and exposed, he advised the media.

The Rajarajeshwara Temple is a Maha Shiva temple located at Thaliparambu in Kannur. This temple is named after ‘Rajarajeshwaran’ which is one of the many names of Lord Shiva. Lord Sivan is the main deity. This temple is considered to be one of the 108 ancient Siva temples in Kerala. This temple has a prominent place among the Siva temples of South India. It is considered a temple ritual to come here and perform deva darshan to solve any problem in any of the temples in South India. Thaliparambu is considered to be one of the oldest strong centers.
