KOCHI: The High Court directed dancer Sathyabhama to surrender in the caste abuse case against RLV Ramakrishnan. She is directed to appear before the Thiruvananthapuram court. The single bench said that the lower court should consider the bail application and take an appropriate decision. The High Court's directive is to dispose of the anticipatory bail petition filed by Sathyabhama.
The police had registered a case against Sathyabhama after making abusive remarks. Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police registered the case on the complaint filed by RLV Ramakrishnan. The case was registered under the SC/ST department. A non-bailable section has been charged against Sathyabhama. Ramakrishnan filed a complaint with Chalakudy DySP. The complaint was forwarded to Thiruvananthapuram Police for further action.
Sathyabhama’s comments about RLV Ramakrishnan in the interview were “Mohiniyattam dancers should always be ‘mohinis’ (have attractive qualities). He has the colour of a crow. Mohiniyattam is a dance form performed by spreading one's legs apart. There is nothing more distasteful than watching a man performing Mohininiyattam with his legs spread wide. In my opinion, if Mohiniyattam is performed by men, they should look handsome. Aren't there handsome people among men too? But, in his case, even his mother could not bear to see him.”
Despite the controversy, Sathyabhama refused to withdraw the allegation. Beauty is essential to play Mohiniyattam. Complexion is important in beauty. If not, has any black child won first place in a beauty pageant? Sathyabhama responded that she would stick to her opinion no matter what.
