Two Malayali women holidaying in Sydney die after falling into sea

CANBERRA: Two Malayali women lost their lives after falling into the sea abroad. The women from Kannur and Kozhikode drowned in the sea in Sydney, Australia. They have been identified as Marwa Hashim (35) and Nirshah Haris (38) near Nadal Naranath Bridge. Nirsha's sister Roshna escaped with injuries.

The accident happened last evening at 4.30 pm (local time). The women were holidaying in Sydney's Sutherland Shire. The two died after being swept off rocks by a freak wave.


Marwa is a government employee in Australia. Marwa came to the beach with her family and friends to spend their holidays. Marwa and Nirsha were found unconscious in a search conducted in the sea with the help of a helicopter and taken to the hospital, but their lives could not be saved. Roshna swam to safety. Police said accidental deaths are common at this place, known as the 'black spot'.

Marwa's husband is Dr Sirajuddin of Thayalangadi Mallyas Line in Kasaragod. The family has been living in Australia for about ten years. Her father is KMCC founder leader C Hashim and mother Kannur Corporation Seven and a Half Division Councilor Feroza Hashim. Nirsha's husband is T K Haris and father is A S Rahman and mother Laila.
