kk

NEW DELHI: Complaints have been rife for the past few days that many people are travelling in the sleeper and AC compartments without taking tickets or after taking tickets for the general compartment. The incident where the passengers, who had booked tickets by paying huge amounts, faced difficulties in the Vande Bharat Express due to the overcrowding caused by ticketless passengers has brought embarrassment to the entire nation.

Now, the Indian Railway is gearing up to take stern action against those who travel without tickets or illegally enter higher-class compartments after buying cheap tickets. It is reported that the Railways has decided to take legal action in addition to slapping fines on those passengers who are found travelling without valid tickets. In the last month alone, Eastern Railway had collected Rs 7.50 crores as fine.

It is reported that nearly Rs 25 lakh is being collected daily as fines from those who travel without taking tickets. The Railways decided to take strict action after widespread complaints about train passengers travelling in AC sleeper coaches without valid tickets surfaced. In May alone, 1,80,900 people were caught travelling without tickets during the strict inspections carried out by the Eastern Railway.
