Surprise awaits St. Anthony's students in the schoolyard, Marian's foal gains attention

KOLANCHERI: Students arriving at St. Anthony's Public School, East East tomorrow morning are in for a delightful surprise. Marian, the beloved white horse, has given birth to a beautiful foal. The birth took place on Saturday at 4 pm on the school grounds.

Marian, a four-year-old horse, was purchased by the school management from Kannur for Rs 80,000 eight months ago to teach horse riding to the students. The school received a discount on her price. At the time of purchase, it was not known that she was pregnant. Standing at four-and-a-half feet tall, Marian is known for her friendly and obedient nature, endearing herself to the 1,200 students at the school.

The school staff, including security guards Anil and Alex, along with other staff members, assist the children in horse riding training. Marian's pregnancy was only noticed recently, leading to her being given complete rest. The birth on Saturday was unexpected, and since then, numerous visitors have come to see Marian and her new foal.

In addition to Marian, the school is home to many ornamental birds, rabbits, iguanas and has a garden with 160 species of Ayurvedic plants, as well as aquariums for breeding ornamental fish.

Protective mother

Marian, who is very fond of the School Manager Fr. Francis Areekkal, usually comes running at the sight or sound of his car. However, since giving birth, she has been a bit grumpy and protective of her foal. Marian now behaves rudely to those who approach her baby, not even responding to her favourite groundnut candy. She does not allow anyone to get a close look at her coffee-coloured foal, which has a distinctive spot on its forehead.

"Horse riding training is currently free at the school. I am considering hiring a coach, after which a fee will be charged."
