'No character will come close to it, finest ever performance'; Director Joshiy rates Mohanlal's best film

Film director Joshiy is reclusive when it comes to interviews and public appearances. The veteran director still abides by this notion and rarely gives ‘yes-nod’ to interviews. In one such ‘rare’ interview allowed to a magazine, Joshiy adulated Mohanlal’s versatility and pointed out one iconic performance he rated as the ‘best from any Indian actor’.

For Joshiy, the finest performance from Mohanlal came in the Mani Ratnam film ‘Iruvar’. The director asserted that Mohanlal would never jump into another such character in his career.

“There will be one essential movie directed by Mani Ratnam in every famous Indian directors' film library. That is his stature. He is the only director who can take Indian cinema globally and no one can brag about it. Just watch Ponniyin Selvan and you will understand it. Take a deep intricate study of his movies and you will see the nuances in the filmmaking. He is a textbook for every movie enthusiast in India. Even my son has a book of Mani Ratnam’s filmmaking. He is a role model for everyone.” said Joshiy.
