Operation Life: Food Safety Dept inspects 1993 establishments, shuts down 90 shops

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food Safety Department inspected 1993 establishments across the state during a two-day special drive as part of Operation Life. The drive was conducted as part of Operation Monsoon, which runs from May to July, to ensure the safety of food available in shops.

During the inspection, 90 shops were shut down for not complying with the food safety quality standards. Rectification notices were issued to 315 establishments and compound notices to 262 establishments. 22 improvement notices were also issued during the two-day inspections.

Adjudication proceedings have also been initiated against seven establishments. As part of Operation Monsoon, inspections will be conducted in hotels, restaurants and all other establishments working in food manufacturing and distribution. Strict action will be taken if shops are found to be running untidy during monsoons.
