Prices soaring for vegetables, meat and fish; this week's and last week's price

vegetables

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The prices of fish and vegetables are skyrocketing. Tomato price is Rs 100 per kg. The yield in Andhra and Tamil Nadu decreasing due to reduced rainfall is the reason. The price of vegetables do go up during the trawling ban but the high prices now are due to the low arrival of vegetables. Government is reluctant to intervene in the market due to the financial crisis.

Within a week, the price of beans and bitter gourd rose to Rs 100 per kg. Moringa cost Rs.80. Bottle gourd is Rs 20 per kg which has not increased in price.

Due to the ban on trawling, fish arrivals have decreased and prices have skyrocketed. At the harbor, a kilo of sardine fetches an auction price of Rs 250 and in the market it goes up to Rs 300. Many markets sell 4–5 sardines for Rs 100. The price of yellowfin tuna has gone up to Rs 700 per kg.

The price of buffalo meat ranges from 380 to 420 rupees. The price is 420 rupees for boneless. Beef is Rs 420 and mutton is Rs 800. Meanwhile, the price of chicken meat, which was up to Rs 300 per kg, has now gone down to Rs 220. Live chicken price dropped from Rs 184 to Rs 140-130 per kg.
