Three killed after pickup van crashes into shop, two injured

KOZHIKODE: Three people were killed after a pick-up van went out of control and crashed into a shop in Kuliramutty in Koodaranji. Two people were injured.

The deceased have been identified as Sundaran (62), of Pulikkunnath and John (65) of Kavungum Thottam, natives of Kuliramutty who came to buy goods from the shop and Muhammad Rafi (36), of Moozhiyan and native of Thekkumkutty, who were with the driver in the vehicle. Jomon (31), the shop owner, of Valiya Mayiladi, and pickup van driver Shihabuddin (37), a resident of Thekkumkutty, were injured. Both are undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The accident happened at 9.30 am on Friday. A pickup van carrying chicken manure from Poovaranthodu to Koodaranji lost control and crashed into the shop. Due to the impact of the hit, the vehicle, the shop and the nearby electric post were completely destroyed.

Prema is the wife of deceased Sundar. Children: Amritha, Athira. John's wife: Lily. Children: Priya (UK), Prajeesh (Italy). Muhammad Rafi's wife: Shailath Banu. Children: Hasa Fathima, Ashmi. The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem at the Kozhikode Medical College. The funeral of Sundaran and Rafi was held. John's funeral will be held later.
