fire

THRISSUR: A fire broke out at a petrol pump. The incident happened Tuesday morning at Vazhakod in Wadakkancherry. A major tragedy was averted as was able to douse the flames that was spreading.

The water that flowed from the pump in the rain had traces of petrol. This water had flowed in front of the vegetable shop thirty meters away from the pump due to the continuous rains lashing the district. A small pit had formed there and it contained water. It is believed that the fire started when someone who came to the shop to buy things threw the butt of the cigarette into the water and this led to the fire.

The petrol in the water caught fire and reached the pump. A major disaster was averted as the flames were extinguished quickly. The fire broke out when the tanker driver went to have food. However, a private bus driver who reached the spot quickly moved the tanker away from the pump and averted the disaster. A gas fuel pump is also located here.

The vegetable shop of Naushad of Valiyaparambu in Vazhakkod was destroyed in the fire. The fire brigade reached the spot and extinguished the fire so it did not spread to the main tanks.
