CBI begins probe on NEET paper leak case, investigation team attacked in Bihar; ED likely to get involved

NEW DELHI: CBI has registered an FIR in the NEET UG examination malpractice and launched an investigation. Meanwhile, a mob attacked the vehicle carrying the CBI team which had come to Bihar to collect investigation information from the police and interrogate the arrested persons. The incident took place in Rajauli in Nawada district. After this, six people were arrested. CBI team also reached Gujarat for investigation.

The CBI registered the case on the complaint of the Union Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education has confirmed that irregularities, cheating, impersonation and malpractice have been reported in the NEET UG conducted on May 5. It is known that the Enforcement Directorate has also started an investigation following the indication that several lakhs of black money is involved in the leak of the question paper. The arrested persons had stated that they had sold the question paper for Rs 30-40 lakh. The Supreme Court had sent a notice to the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA). The plea will be heard on July 8.

63 students debarred

  • NTA has debarred 63 students who committed exam malpractice in NEET exam
  • Among these are 17 people from Bihar and 30 people from Godhra in Gujarat
  • Two teachers of a training center in Latur in Maharashtra were taken into custody on Sunday
  • In Bihar, 13 people including four students were arrested earlier
  • One person, who is a key link, was arrested in UP and another four were arrested in Jharkhand last day.

Only 813 candidates for re-test

Of the 1563 students who got grace marks, only 813 appeared for the NEET UG re-test conducted on Sunday. A last-minute change of exam centres proved to be a problem for the candidates. Six centres were changed, including Jhajjar in Haryana, where six students scored 720 out of 720 in the initial examination. Students who appeared on Sunday will be given revised score. Absentees will continue with the old score without grace marks.
